Rocking n Rolling with Royal Caribbean
JENNY ROWLAND parties on the Ovation of the Seas
I love music festivals and I love cruising so when the opportunity came up to go on the “Rock The Boat” Supercruise 2022 I was more than a little excited.
I also love a party and that’s exactly what I got!
Heralding the eagerly awaited comeback of this music lovers cruise it is heart warming to see the huge smiles on everyone’s faces as they eagerly scan the app to decide which artist they’re going to see next.
This year they’ve combined Rock The Boat with “Cruisin’ Country” and the venue is the stunning. Ovation of the Seas – one of Royal Caribbeans show stopping flagships.
Taking to the seas in April 2016, the Ovation of the Seas is one of the newest ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet and is a destination in itself.
Take adventure to new heights on the rock climbing wall, experience the thrill of skydiving on the RipCord by iFly, or carve it up on the FlowRider surf simulator.

After all of that you can ascend over 91 metres above sea level in the North Star.
But who needs that excitement when you have the amazing Suzie Quattro on board!??

She is headlining along with 52 other performers in 7 different venues from noon each day for 7 days . This is a veritable musical smorgasbord for music lovers and cruisers alike who have been deprived for 2 long Covid stricken years. The party atmosphere on board is electric and super friendly especially around the pool bar. With music as the common bond, friendships are formed instantly…. Especially once the drinks package has been purchased!!
My fomo is playing up badly as I try to choose between Dirty Deeds (AC/DC tribute band) and the Tina Turner tribute. The great thing is that most artists are playing 2 or 3 times so I get to see all my favourites.
Standouts for me are Ross Wilson, Daddy Cool himself, and Rebecca O’Connor who not only sounded exactly like Tina Turner she looked like her too and had all her distinctive sexy moves.
The “man in black” Johnny Cash show I also loved but Suzi Quattro totally blew me, and everyone on board away. An energetic bundle of 70’s super stardom who had everyones spines tingling and toes tapping with her incredible performance.
Everything about this cruise is fun fun fun – but be warned you will need a holiday after to recover and to eradicate the extra pounds as the food on board Ovation is as great as the entertainment.
Choices are endless from pizza to hot dogs with plenty of healthy food and fine dining options and even late night snacks after the later shows. I do wish I had spent more time in the fantastic on-board gym but there were just too many shows and great music to hear. It was worth getting tight pants for that!!
Make sure you get in nice and early for next year as the great Jimmy Barnes is headlining and that man sure knows how to rock a boat!!
